Discouraged Is NOT Your Name Anymore

“Don't call yourself discouraged anymore; it's no longer your name.” ― Jaachynma N.E. Agu
Imagine walking into a networking event wearing a giant name tag that says: “Hello, my name is Discouraged.” Not the vibe. People would slowly edge toward the snack table, avoiding eye contact. Good news: you get to swap name tags anytime you want.
Here are three silly ways to retire “Discouraged” and try on something that actually fits.

1. Return It to Lost & Found
Discouragement isn’t your permanent identity—it’s more like a jacket someone accidentally left at your house. Sure, you wore it around for a while, but it doesn’t actually belong to you. Hang it up in the lost & found and walk out in your favorite hoodie instead.
2. Try on Ridiculous Replacements
If you must wear a new name, make it fun. “Hello, my name is Radiantly Confused.” Or “Slightly Unhinged but Hopeful.” These silly titles remind you: names are flexible, temporary, and never the sum of who you are. You’re more than one word slapped on a sticker.
3. Let the Barista Decide
Next time you’re at the coffee shop, when they ask your name, don’t say “Discouraged.” Say “Victory.” Or “Sparkle.” Or “Queen of Boundaries.” Hearing someone shout that across the café is oddly therapeutic—and possibly contagious for the people around you.
Discouragement may knock at your door, but it doesn’t get a key to your house—or your identity. You’re allowed to rename yourself as often as you like, whether that’s Courageous, Persistent, or just “Tired but Trying.” So peel off that sticker, toss it in the trash, and remember: you are not Discouraged. You’re a walking rebrand in progress.
